Interesting Facts of Scorpions and Bats



Let’s have a look at some of the interesting facts about Scorpions and Bats:-

A.      Interesting Facts about Scorpions

1.              There are almost 2,000 scorpion species, but only 30 or 40 have strong enough poison to kill a person.

2.                For the most part, scorpions are nocturnal.

3.                It is believed that scorpions have existed since the Silurian period, 420-450 million years ago.

4.                Every now and then, female scorpion eats her mate.

5.                Scorpions grow from 2.5cm to 20cm in length.

6.                Some scorpions have up to 10 eyes.

7.                All scorpions can inject poison from the sting at the end of their tail.

8.                Scorpions are also found in the sea and on the beaches.

9.                Female scorpions give birth to live young and look after them by carrying them around on their back.

10.           The average lifespan of a scorpion is from 2 years to 8 years.

11.           Compared to older scorpions, young scorpions are more aggressive.

1.                Bats are the only flying mammals.

3.                Bats are roaming on the earth since a long time.

4.                The bat’s fingers are very long compared to its body.

5.            Smallest species of bats are known as microbat and the smallest one is Pipistrellus nanus of Central Africa which is only 4 cm (1.5 in) long.

6.                The life expectancy of a single bat exceeds 20 years

7.                Mother bat can locate her pup out of millions in a roost, by tracking down its scent and sound.

8.              A colony of 150 bats can protect local farmers from up to 33 million or more rootworms each summer.
